Magellan 2000 GPS system question?
Why would a GPS system be named after a guy who died before his journey was complete? Are they telling me something?

- i actually own one of those. granting this is my first gps, i find the roadmate very reassuring. i never have to travel with a boat load of maps printed from google and i have the confidence to wander about looking at the built in POI. btw. magellan did reach his destination, albeit approx 3200mi off-course. he was killed by a tribal leader Lapu- Lapu.
- Quite possible they are trying a little truth in advertising.
- Maybe. But "Magellan" is an explorer who led the first expedition around the world. Around the world = Global GPS = Global Positioning System.
- Yes!! Good luck with that...Didn't he die on one of his journey...Please tell Mrs. Food Dude to notify your P&S contacts.
- You know I have to say I like having Magellan with me as I am terrible once I get about 300 miles from home, I'm not blessed with a sense of direction. Good old Mag.. (that's my pet name for the old dude) does me right. I think they are trying to tell you when you leave U.S. territorial waters, be careful because Magellan will die as he only has a U.S. map inside him.
