Does the TomTom or Magellan Maestro Navigation system need a subscription?
Do either need a monthly/annual subscription to use or are they free other than the actual unit cost.

- no, neither of them need a subscription. But, to get some maps needed for traveling, you need to download them from the internet with the USB cable provided in the box when you purchase the unit. For Megellan, some of the update maps cost money, but for TomTom, they do not require any purchasing besides the unit itself. Alos, a good way to compare the two are that the TomTom has points of interests you can type into the unit, so, that way, you dont have to know the exact address if needed.
- no...the only time you MIGHT have to subscibe is if you want real time traffic updates but for basic use of any kind on any GPS unit there is no subscription charge....
